Hey Everyone,

Happy Easter. Well it has been all go this week. Writing more intricate code, responding to client feedback, making adjustments to my master CMS system, it has been all go. I would say that it has been a successful week.

I am on the verge of wrapping up a large project that I have been working on since November last year. "Steves Family Restaurant" is a small home grown business who required a unique website. They wanted to advertise with banners and text ads, they wanted to construct their menu in the administrative panel with drag & drop functionality and they wanted full content management. They wanted to add meals to a calendar that could then be displayed on the front-end for the clients to read or print.

The result is DineAtSteves.com. It has been a challenging site, but with that came many opportunities. It has pushed the limits of my abilities and allowed me to broaden my experience as a programmer. Not something you should take likely, you should always grasp these opportunities with both hands, the rewards are always worth it for us programmers.

I am making time to read again, something I have been less enthusiastic about doing. I figured that I need to enhance my knowledge further, as these additional skills could become the difference between getting a job or not. I signed up with Goodreads.com, so I can share my books and progress with any interested parties. Some good will no doubt come it, just need to find the time. I really must buy myself an Amazon Kindle, so I can read at leisure and not at the computer screen.

That is all for now, I will be back next week to share some more thoughts with you all. Have a great week.

So, you’re pretty good at what you do. You’ve been doing it for a while and most projects seem to flow pretty smoothly. Then BAM! It happens.

You’re faced with a task or a subject or an app that you’ve never heard of before. Panic-time, right?

Everyone knows that it’s important to be knowledgeable in your field. Generally speaking, the more knowledge that you have mastered the more that you have to offer to your client.

But, did you know that what you don’t know can also benefit your freelancing business? It seems counter-intuitive, but it’s true. If you approach what you don’t know with the right attitude, it can provide new opportunities for you and for your freelancing business.

In this post, we’ll discuss five surprising ways to leverage what you don’t know to the advantage of your business.

So, you’ve just decided to become a freelancer. What is the best way to get started?

Obviously, you need to apply for gigs. But, is there anything else that you should be doing for your business when you start out?

If you ask me, you should also be blogging.

New freelancers often ask how soon they should start blogging. While some experts believe that a freelancer should wait until their business is fairly well established before they set up a business blog, in my opinion, you should set up a blog for your business as soon as you can.

Blogging is a relatively low cost activity that will add value to your business for a long time to come, and in many cases blogging alone can push your business from obscurity to prosperity.

Read on for an overview of what you should be doing with your freelance blog, five ways that a blog can help your business, and a few brief recommendations on how to get started.

Welcome – Introduction

Welcome,

Being a freelance web designer, I have always desired a way to promote myself online.  I have Facebook, Twitter, all the usual suspects, to display information about me, but no site dedicated to my work achievements and skills.  I was initially going to create my own web site to display my web portfolio but a good friend suggested WordPress, a free blog system that allows the creation of a blog/web site for free.  So I have taken it upon myself to learn how to use WordPress in order to expose myself and to acquire additional skills that could be beneficial in the future.

You will notice the general appearance of this site improve over time as I learn more about WordPress.  I hope my readers will comment, tweet and promote my skills to further assist my career.

I thank you for visiting my site and I hope you return with your friends.

Have a great day

Paul Jacobs
